Project Qatar Steel Company(QASCO) -1973- Home Page
Content A steel bar mill(annual production 600,000 tons)
Major partners the Government of Qatar, Kobe Steel Ltd., ex- The Export-Import Bank of Japan.
Short history QASCO was established, as a joint venture company of the Government of Qatar, Kobe Steel Ltd. and TBDL, with TBDL acting as an organizer.
The Japanese partners provided the technology (including training of local engineers and management skills) and the marketing system.
The Export-Import Bank of Japan (present JBIC/ Japan Bank for International Cooperation) provided the loan.
TBDL's role TBDL was one of the founding members of QASCO and as the overall project organizer and its exclusive sales agents, had contributed to QASCO for fifteen years by establishing the production-to-order system based on payment on L/C basis.
QASCO today/evaluation QASCO has now increased its annual production to 1 million tons and has been achieving high profitability.
This project has been highly rated by The World Bank as one of the most successful model-case joint ventures in the developing countries.

Project Sharjah LPG Company (SHALCO) -1986-
Content A LPG plant (annual production 500,000 tons )
Major partners Sharjah Government, AMOCO ( present BP), JGC and C.Itoh
Short history A huge natural gas field was discovered in Sharjah of UAE, but emitting jet of gas was just being flared out wastefully and urgent construction of LPG plants was hoped for.
TBDL's role Sharjah Government, which highly rated the achievements of TBDL in QASCO project, gave orders to TBDL for organizing the project, and a joint venture was formulated under TBDL's leadership.
SHALCO today/evaluation SHALCO is enjoying a 138% dividend. SHALCO has been contributing to stable supply of LPG by its export of all product to Japan.

Project Kuwait Catalyst Company (KCC) -1996- Home Page
Content A desulfurizing chemical catalyst plant
Major partners Japan Energy, C.Itoh, Hyundai and TII.
Short history Kuwait crude oil is knows as high sulfer crude.
A plant to produce chemical catalyst domestically for desulfurizing their crude oil was inevitable from cost savings.
We utilized Japan Energy's chemical catalyst production technology for the purpose.
TBDL's role TBDL played a role as project organizer including arrangement of project finance from TII (Kuwaiti Investment Bank).
The first petroleum technology export from Japan.
KCC today/evaluation KCC is the first joint venture project between Kuwait and Japan on the private sector basis.

Project East Siberia Pipeline -1990-
Content A pipeline laying project to supply 6 million tons of natural gas annually
Major partners ex-U.S.S.R, the Republic of Yakutsk, American enterprises and groups.
Short history This project was aiming to lay a 56 inch pipeline over 4,500 km from Yakutsk in East Siberia to Japan via North and South Korea and supply annually the maximum of 42 billion ㎥ (6 million tons) of natural gas.
TBDL signed a Letter of Intent for the above development project with the parties, including the first vice-chairman Mr.Margulov, vice-minister of the Ministry of Geology, Mr.Salmanov, both of U.S.S.R and Prime Minister of the Republic of Yakutsk, Mr.Ivanov and representatives from various enterprises and groups of U.S.S,R (including GAS PROM Chairman Mr.Chernomirdyn who was later the prime minister of the Republic of Russia), the Republic of Yakutsk and U.S.A.
TBDL's role TBDL have organized a pipeline project by collaboration with US oil development company.
Project today/evaluation This project, the foundation of which we laid down, has still been driven forward today as the revised pipeline project connecting Yakutsk/Irkutsk – China – Korea – Japan.

Project Czech Steel Mill -1992-
Content A hot coil mill(annual production 2 million tons)
Major partners NKK,IHI, Toshiba, Sumitomo Heavy Machinery, Brown Roots and Dillon Reed (Investment Bank).
Short history In 1990, when liberalization movements broke out in the former East European bloc, in keeping with the spirit of general reformation, including preparation of the new constitution by President Havel of Czech Republic, the then Minister of Industry, Mr.Dlouhy took interest in TBDL's performances on his visit to QASCO and later organized a meeting with TBDL for consultation on overall modernization of Czech industries. As the result, TBDL was commissioned to modernize the iron and steel mills.
We TBDL, together with NKK, IHI, Toshiba, Sumitomo Heavy Machinery, Brown Roots and Dillon Reed, planned to build a hot coil mill, by combining the existing blast furnace with new and powerful rolling mill, drawing project finance from Dillon Reed, which had the highest productivity hot coil mill in Europe at the time.
TBDL's role A highly realizable plan was drawn up with TBDL's coordination and after passing the Czech cabinet meeting with the support of US President Clinton, the plan was decided to go ahead.
Project today/evaluation At that time, steel manufacturing facilities in EU had significant surplus.
EU was restructuring steel industry by merger and scrapping of facilities.
Czech Republic aiming to join EU in the near future have scaled down the plant to make only 1 million tons instead of planned 2 million tons.
TBDL had to make a judgment that with the production of only 1 million tons, the project cannot be profitable and as a result, the plan has been frozen since.
